Рассматривается соотношение раннестоического «блага» и «безразличного» как теоретического и практического. Автор вносит существенные уточнения в постановку проблемы отношения «блага» и «безразличного».
В ходе исследования выявляются и обосновываются теоретические основания блага, определяется характер того знания, которое лежит в основании блага и добродетели: неизменность и общность. При этом отмечается единство целеполагания субъектов действия(как нравственно совершенных, так порочных), которое заключается в стремлении к предпочитаемому безразличному.

The article considers the correlation between «the good» and «the indifferent» as a theoretical and practical relationship in the philosophy of early Stoics. The author clarifies the problem-setting aspects of this relationship, sets out and analyses the theoretical foundations of «the good». He defines the natureof the foundational knowledge of «the good» and «the virtue» as having two characteristics: immutability and community. The author also points to the unity of purposes that actors have (both morally perfect and morally vicious) which consists in the aspiration towards the preferred indifferent.

этикой стоиков. Почему стоики использовали аристотелевский термин «diathesis» для определения добродетели, в то время как сам Аристотель пользовался иным термином? В ходе исследования автор статьи приходит к выводу, что стоики заимствовали вышеозначенный термин для того, чтобы утвердить автономный характер добродетели. Последнее связано с теоретической доминантой стоической добродетели.
This article devote to the issue of terminological continuity between Aristotle’s philosophy and ethics of the Stoics. Why Stoics used the Aristotelian term «diathesis» to define virtue, while Aristotle himself used a different term? Author of research concludes, that the Stoics borrowed aforesaid term in order to give the self-sufficiency of virtue. The latter conditional on dominant theoretical of Stoic virtue.

Анализируются понятие«влечение» и его роль в этике стоиков. Доказывается, что«влечение» имеет не меньшее значение в раннестоической этике и теории действия, чем«согласие». Автор проанализировал положение, согласно которому все влечения направлены на предикаты. Предполагается, что это положение стоики использовали для терапии души и искоренения из нее страстей. Также было рассмотрено учение стоиков о страстях и благострастии. Анализ этих учений показал, что благим действием, с точки зрения стоиков, является разумный выбор в рамках безразличного.

This article analyses the notion of «impulse» and its role in stoic ethics. It is proved that «impulse» is as important in the ethics of early Stoics and theory of action as «assent». The author analyses the thesis according to which all impulses aim at predicates. It is proposed that stoics used the thesis for the therapy of the soul and eradication of passions. The paper also considers the stoic doctrine of passions and good passions. The analysis of the doctrine showed that the good action, as understood by the Stoics, is a reasonable choice within the boundaries of the indifferent.

Анализируется философская полемика между стоиками и эпикурейцами. Анализ философской дискуссии стоиков и эпикурейцев по вопросам необходимости и случайности показал, что данная тема не была центральной в межшкольной полемике эпохи эллинизма. Основная полемика разворачивалась вокруг морально-этических проблем, особенно касательно вопросов счастья. В то же время вопросы, дискутируемые в физике стоиков и эпикурейцев, являются дополнительным средством для идентификации этических предпочтений представителей этих философских направлений. Так, индетерминистическая позиция эпикурейцев говорит о негативно-пассивном характере их этики, т. е. главными компонентами этической доктрины последователей Эпикура являются запрещающие нормы. Детерминистическая позиция стоиков, напротив, свидетельствует о позитивно-активном характере их этики, в том смысле, что повелевающие нормы там превалируют.

The paper focuses on the philosophical debate between the Stoics and Epicureans. An analysis of the philosophical discussion about necessity and contingency shows that the topic was not significant for interscholastic debates of the Hellenistic period. The paper demonstrates that the main questions for Hellenistic philosophers are located in ethical theory with one of the most important being: “what is happiness?”. However, the philosophical discussions about physical problems are additional tools for clarification of the ethical preferences of the Stoics and Epicureans. It is shown that Epicurean indeterminism indicates a negative and passive character of the Epicurean ethics. It means that the ethics of Epicurus mostly consists of the inhibitions. On the contrary, Stoic determinism indicates a positive and active character of ethics. That means that the Stoic ethics mainly includes requirements.

Статья посвящена проблеме атрибуции трактата «О добродетелях и пороках» (Corpus Aristotelicum, 1249a26–1251b37), а также трансформации этики Платона в этом сочинении. Доказывается, что это сочинение не могло быть написано Аристотелем, так как содержит в себе стоическую терминологию. Приводится ряд аргументов в пользу того, что исследуемый трактат был написан в период эклектизма (II–I вв. до н.э.). Высказаны критические замечания относительно попытки современного исследователя П. Симпсона доказать аутентичность данного сочинения. Анализ текста показал, что этические идеи Платона в данном трактате претерпели существенные изменения: список добродетелей расширен, а сами добродетели интерпретируются в перипатетическом духе.
The article deals with the question of attribution of the treatise On the virtues and vices (Corpus Aristotelicum, 1249a26–1251b37), and transformations of Plato’s ethics in this work. It is shown that Aristotle could not have written this treatise, since it contains certain Stoic borrowings. The author argues that it had been written during the period of eclecticism (II–I BC), criticising the attempt made by P. Simpson to prove the authenticity of the treatise. An examination of the text shows that Plato’s ethical ideas in this work have changed significantly: the number of virtues is increased and the virtues themselves are interpreted from a Peripatetic point of view.

The paper focuses on the status of non-moral good and evil in the philosophy of Socrates. First, the author notes that one of the manifest moral beliefs of Socrates was the division of all goods to authentic (moral) and unauthentic (non-moral) ones. This distinction gives rise to a number of questions about the degree of dependence of human happiness on the ownership of the non-moral good and avoidance of the non-moral evil. The degree of categoricity and absoluteness of the ethical system depends on what answers we give to these questions. When reading the «Apology» and other early works of Plato, it may seem that Socrates was a consistent absolutist, for whom the moral good is so great that it completely closes access to non-moral goods. However, there are opposite points of view, according to which the non-moral goods have some value in philosophy of Socrates. After considering both positions, the author concludes that the exact and ultimate answer to this question is not possible. Nevertheless, an approximate answer sounds as follows. Proceeding from two possible interpretations Apol. 30b2–4 and the general theoretical content of Socrates’ moral philosophy, non-moral goods have value in a certain way. At the same time, the non-moral goods are qualitatively different from the moral goods, so far as the latter influence the way of life, while the former are not capable of it.

The paper focuses on the role of external goods in the ethics of Aristotle. The author starts with considering a preliminary definition of happiness formulated by Aristotle in the first book of «Nicomachean Ethics» (1098a12–16), which regarded the psychological good (a virtuous activity) as the main component of happiness. The author then examines texts in which Aristotle recognizes the necessity of external goods for achieving happiness. It raises the problem: what is the role of external goods in achieving happiness, if the main component of happiness is the psychological good? Two positions on the matter (monism and inclusivism) are outlined. The author presents some criticism on both positions. Finally, the author shows by example of the problem of Priam that the monistic view is more acceptable.

Рассмотрен один из главных компонентов практической философии Аристотеля – рассудительность. Отмечается, что рассудительность обладает уникальным амбивалентным характером: она, с одной стороны, имеет дело с частным (единичным), с другой стороны – с кафолическим (общим, универсальным). Показано, что специфика кафолического рассудительности состоит в том, что оно не способно предоставлять точных и неизменных правил, но может предложить лишь общепризнанное и вероятностное знание. Делается вывод, что, поскольку в практической философии переход с универсального уровня на уровень единичных обстоятельств не может производиться автоматически, но требует еще и поиска (ζήτησις), постольку интерпретация рассудительности через практический силлогизм имеет серьезные ограничения, так как она упускает из виду наиважнейший момент принятия решения, присущий только рассудительности.
[The paper focuses on Aristotle’s notion of the practical wisdom (phronēsis), which is associated with both universal and particular. It is shown that universals in practical wisdom can’t offer the precise and unconditional knowledge, but on the contrary, universal knowledge in the practical area lacks precision. The author argues that following the universal rule in a particular case is difficult, therefore, in order to be prudent it is not enough to have a practical syllogism, but practical inquiry is also required].

This paper is divided into three sections: an introduction, a translation of Pseudo-Aristotelian treatise “On Virtues and Vices” (De virtutibus et vitiis), and a commentary to this text. In the introduction, the author briefly describes textual tradition, critical editions and available translations of the treatise in European languages. The major issue, discussed in the introduction, concerns the question of authenticity and authorship of the treatise. Arguments by E. Zeller, C. Schuchhardt, F. Susemihl, E. Schmidt, who seriously questioned the authenticity of the text, are contrasted with the opinion of P. Simpson, who insisted on its authenticity. The author of the present work is inclined to think that the treatise is a later composition. Respective arguments are presented in length in the commentary, where the author attempts to place the treatise in the context of the ethical works of the Corpus Aristotelicum, on the one hand, and this of the later Hellenistic developments, on the other.

The monograph under review is a completed independent study of urgent and complicated historical and philosophical problem: the correlation of the two Stoic ethical concepts: kathēkon (appropriate action) and katorthōma (perfect moral action). As the author highlights, specific features of Stoa ethical theory are focused in these concepts and the character of their relations, and at the same time its key challenges are associated with them: the correlation of the highest good and the relative values, and the correlation of natural and virtuous. The author presents readers a history of the investigated problem in the introduction. The first chapter is devoted to the study of the main provisions of the ethics of early Stoics, aretology and axiology of Stoics, doctrine of oikeiōsis etc. The second chapter deals with the problem of influence of Cynic and Peripatetic philosophy on ethics of Stoa. The third chapter is devoted to the solution of the main objective of this work. In order to achieve this goal the author uses the rich heritage of research, which includes names such as M. Forschner, G. Nebel, J. Rist, D. Tsekou-rakis, A. Huseynov, A. Stolyarov and others. The following position can be assumed as the basic setting of the author: kathēkon and katorthōma are related as matter (hylē) and principle (arkhē) of the act. On the one hand, this thesis captures the qualitative difference between the two spheres of Stoic ethics. On the other hand, the author fairly insists that the two areas are closely connected to each other. To sum up, the principle is independent from the matter, but the first can not be completely isolated from the second.

Доказывается, что космополитический союз следует рассматривать как содружество мудрых существ. Последнее в свою очередь характеризуется высоким уровнем единства, основанного на согласии относительно того, что есть подлинное благо, а также на том основании, что каждый член этого содружества обладает этим подлинным благом. Единый закон, устанавливающий критерии хорошего и плохого и имеет повелительную силу, выступает надежным унификатором, следование которому делает нас частью большого единого сообщества разумных и добродетельных существ. [The paper is devoted to the analysis of Chrysippus’ cosmopolitanism through the problem of relationship between citizens of the cosmopolis. First, the author points out the main feature of Chrysippus’ citizen, which is possession of perfect reason. Then, the author discovers the causes of unity of co-citizens within cosmopolis. It is shown that a cosmopolitan union has a significant level of consent thanks to the fact that it consists of wise beings, who agree on the true good and each of whom possesses this true good. An effective unifier in the Stoic doctrine is the natural law, the established standard of good and bad obeying which makes a human being part of the community of rational and virtuous beings.]

В статье рассматривается проблема соотношения метафизики и этики Аристотеля. Автор предпринял попытку показать, что некоторые метафизические понятия сыграли определяющую роль в этике Аристотеля. Сначала рассматривается понятие «сущность» (ousia) и показывается, что благодаря этому понятию становится осмысленным и обоснованным положение из первой книги «Никомаховой этики» о счастье как выполнении человеком собственного назначения (ergon). Этот подход, который мы обозначили как «эссенциальный», в целом вполне адекватно отражает этику Аристотелю в той мере, в какой она является этикой добродетели. Однако через апелляцию к фрагменту EN 1140b16-20 было показано, что в этике Аристотеля также присутствует деонтологическая линия, которая не может быть отражена в рамках вышеобозначенного подхода. В связи с этим было предложено обратиться к понятию «деятельность» (energeia) как к обладающему большим потенциалом. Дело в том, что это понятие, с одной стороны, включает в себя все те смыслы, которые несет в себе понятие «сущность» и тем самым позволяет представить аретологическую сторону этики Аристотеля, а с другой, содержит в себе такие смысловые уровни, которые раскрывают деонтологическую составляющую его этики. Таким образом, метафизические основания этики Аристотеля могут быть выявлены и как посредством понятия «сущность», так и посредством понятия «деятельность», но в последнем случае речь идет о более полном раскрытии этического учения Аристотеля.

The paper deals with the problem of correlation of Aristotle's metaphysics and ethics. I argue that a number of metaphysical notions had affected to Aristotle's ethics. First, I show that a thesis from the first book of the Nicomachean Ethics about happiness of human being as its peculiar activity becomes justified and reasonable due to consideration of the notion “essence”. The representatives of this point of view became are T. Irwin, E. Halper, D. Achtenberg, M. Sim. This approach which I refer to as “essentialism” describes Aristotle's ethics appropriately insofar as it is the virtue ethics. However, in EN 1140b16-20 Aristotle said that there are the first principles of action (for which actions are performed) and that we ought to choose and do everything for sake of these first principles. I suppose that this passage reveals an obvious deontological line in Aristotle's ethics which cannot be represented in “essentialism”. Indeed, while “essentialism” is concentrated on the essence of being (including human being), deontology takes in account first the essence of morality. Therefore, I offer to appeal to the notion “actuality” (energeia) because it can represent both aretological and deontological lines of Aristotle's ethics. Thus, the metaphysical basis of Aristotle's ethics can be shown by both “essence” and “actuality”, although the latter is preferable since it is more universal.

The paper is devoted to the problem of correlation Aristotle's metaphysics and ethics. The author focuses on two possible relations: (1) either metaphysics affects ethics, (2) either ethics affects metaphysics. There are two ways to describe how metaphysics might affect to ethics through the concept of essence (ousia) and through the concept of activity (energeia). The second way is preferable because it describes the ethics of Aristotle more fully. As for the influence of ethics on metaphysics, there is an approach according to which Aristotle developed the concept of phronêsis in order to enhance ontological knowledge offered in Metaphysics. The author proposes own solution which is that Aristotle's views on the essence of human activity partly predetermined his ontological picture. The crucial role in this was played by Aristotle's opinion in ethics and psychology that a human being acts voluntarily (hekousion) and by his/her own choice (kata prohairesin).

Gregory of Nazianzus and Boethius build their theoretical models of the Trinitarian relations using the philosophical category of relation. While Gregory interprets relation as a connection between the divine Persons, and introduces two kinds of relation, Boethius uses only one relation and locates relation in the Persons themselves. As a result Gregory’s model does not allow an insertion of a relation between the Son and the Holy Spirit, while Boethius’ model does not permit to exclude this relation.

The paper examines the theoretical structure of the Trinitarian doctrine of Gregory of Nazianzus and his ways of argumentation. Gregory’s prohibition to philosophize about God is interpreted not as a result of his epistemological position, but rather as a rhetorical method. His successful synthesis of values of ancient rationality, classical education, and Christian ideals, requires taking into account the richness of his rhetorical style, in order not to limit our understanding of his teaching by a literal interpretation of separate statements.
